The books I’ve recently read, and the new releases that are next on my list!

A Few Books is Better Than None, Right?
I wish I could say these are all the books I’ve read in the last month, but that just wouldn’t be true. I read so many books towards the end of 2021, and I thought I could keep that momentum going into the new year, but it’s been slow going to say the least! However, I just purchased a few new books and I’m on the waitlist at the library for a few more, so my goal is to get back into the swing of things and read more in the coming months and I will definitely share my favorites here with you! As a note, I will only share the books that I’ve read AND loved with you here.
The House In The Cerulean Sea
By T.J. Klune
This book was enchanting, and one of my top recommendations to anyone who needs an escape from the world right now with a heartwarming read. It’s brimming with humor and love, but also presents tough questions about ignorance, prejudice, complacency and kindness. The characters are compelling and loveable — You’ll need a few tissues, but this one ranks highly on the happily-ever-after scale.
Ninth House
By Leigh Bardugo
This book was a recommendation in one of Anne Helen Peterson’s newsletters under the ‘Just Trust Me’ section. And boy am I glad I did. This story was compelling from the start. Secret societies on a prestigious college campus, an unlikely heroine, and a mysterious and sordid past slowly revealed. There’s a rumored sequel in the works and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I could definitely see this one being made into a TV show or movie!
Mr. Penumbra’s Twenty-Four Hour Library
By Robin Sloan
After finishing Ninth House, I was so enamored with it I found myself searching “If you liked Ninth House, you’ll love….” lists, which lead me to this book. And what a great choice it was! What a fantastic and unexpected journey as you follow the main character down a rabbit hole of mystery and delight after taking a job at a bookstore. Anyone who enjoys books and a touch of magical realism is in for a treat with this one!
What’s Next On My List

Now that I’m getting back into the groove of reading in the evenings, I’m excited to dive into something new! There are a few books I’ve been seeing a lot of good buzz about online, and three of them just arrived in my mailbox today! I’ll be diving into The Unsinkable Greta James by Jennifer E. Smith as my first pick tonight, and I’ll let you know what my thoughts are!
Next on the list are Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson, and One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle!
