When you don’t have the words

When you don’t have the words

I once read that life is a game in which you are juggling balls, where some are made of plastic, and others are made of glass. You can’t be expected to keep all the balls in the air all the time, and you have to know which ones you can afford to drop and which ones you can’t.

It sounded so much better when they said it, but you get the idea.

For me, my blog has been a little plastic ball. And when life became challenging, when there were too many things in the air, it was something I was able to let drop to focus on other things. So thank you for letting me step away for the last few months, even though it was not my intention to.

I don’t know that I’m doing a better job at juggling now, but it turns out that this little plastic ball is a creative outlet that I don’t just want in my life, but that I need. I’m hoping to post weekly, and as always, I’m so glad that you’re here — that you’re taking the time to read, that we are connected to each other in this way.

Between the pandemic, burgeoning wars, a non-stop stream of information (all seemingly bad), and just trying to be a person in the world can really wear on you, and I haven’t felt like I had much to contribute.

I use that ball analogy not to be cryptic or make it seem like I have something intense going on that I don’t want to share. It’s really that I just haven’t had the words lately. My full time job has been demanding, and there’s been a lot going on in the world, and not enough of me to go around.  Between the pandemic, burgeoning wars, a non-stop stream of information (all seemingly bad), and just trying to be a person in the world can really wear on you, and I haven’t felt like I had much to contribute.

But today, the sun is shining, I’m optimistic for the spring, and I’ve chosen to look for little joys in the every day, even while there is so much heaviness that surrounds us. For me, part of that joy to be found is in starting to post on this blog again. So I hope you’ll continue to join me here, and hopefully together we can find the words we’re looking for.

I feel you on all of this! Sometimes we have to have a few non-negotiables too to make us feel whole even when things get challenging.
